Just so that you know, I published a book in 1990 comparing Doris Lessing and Carmen Martín Gaite. It is called Narrative Authority and Homeostatis in the Works of Doris Lessing and Carmen Martín Gaite.

In my last year in Spain, I interviewed most of the major Spanish women novelists. They were wild and wonderful interiews in their houses, in noisy bars, in offices. I got to spend about four times with Martín Gaite, interviews which were indispensable for this book.

Buck got me a compact mini tape recorder to abet these interviews all conducted in Spanish. Wouldn't you know it: it broke during the first interview?

Ps, I don't know if I am an OMA Member and just wanted those of you would might be interested that I learned in addition to the bookl I used to love to give papers (yes I did) and to try to combat therein  some of the most stifling parts of rote literature bashing theory I found myself both teaching and fighting against. I taught from 1980 until about 2008 and it was quite a "journey" here in Western Michigan. Giving a lot of conference papers let me travel all around the country.

I've never stopped missing being in the classroom. That was just about always magic.
